Thunderstorms, robot massages & a Japanese farm we’re already packing for 🌩️

Your weekly dose of what's hot, what's healing, and what's actually worth leaving the house for!

Hello lovely,

Okay. Where do we even begin 🫠

This week in the UAE has been… a lot, to put it mildly. We have geopolitical tension, we have school closures, we have grey gloomy skies, we have collective anxiety quietly humming in the background of every group chat - and then, just to really lean into the chaos, we had the most epic thunderstorm on Friday that felt less like weather and more like the universe clearing its throat.

April Fools’ Day is just a few days away but honestly we don’t need it this year. 2026 is enough of a joke already. And honestly we’re trying to laugh (but frequently crying)

So. Deep breath. Some things you can count on - and we intend to be one of them.

In the Local Lowdown this week, we’ve got some genuinely beautiful ways to come back to yourself - floating sound meditation, waves of sound at the Ritz followed by dinner by the sea, a full moon release ritual with horses, beachside soundbath and restorative yoga under the Libra moon. Basically everything your nervous system has been quietly asking for.

And over in the Wellness Wire - the Aman founder swapping infinity pools for a Japanese farm retreat (we’re not saying we’ve already googled flights to rural Japan, but we’re not saying we haven’t either), robot massages landing in Dubai, cortisol tracking going wearable, Well B Festival on pause, and the new World Happiness Report data on screen time that hits a little differently this week. Plus why smaller wellness brands are winning the trust game right now.

It’s a good one. Promise.

With love (and a reminder that putting your phone down and stepping outside after you’ve read this absolutely counts as a wellness practice),

📍Neuro Link - Dr Olivier Carpentieri at Yutopia Clinic

I first came across Dr. Olivier Carpentieri in a biohackers WhatsApp group I’m part of, where his work was described, quite simply, as life-changing.

Naturally, that stopped me in my tracks.

When he then shared more about NeuroLink, the treatment he offers at Utopia Clinic, my curiosity only deepened. It didn’t feel like just another wellness treatment, it felt like something operating on a completely different level.

So what actually is NeuroLink?

At its core, it’s a body–brain treatment built on the idea that our experiences, especially stress and trauma, don’t just live in the mind… they’re stored in the body.

Rather than talking through those experiences, NeuroLink works directly with the nervous system.

Through very specific stimulation of the fascia (the connective tissue), the brain is guided into a deeply altered, almost hypnotic state, where it can begin to process and release stored emotional responses.

It’s essentially a “bottom up” approach, using the body to access patterns that can be difficult to reach through traditional talking therapies alone.

And perhaps the most interesting part… you don’t need to consciously know what you’re working on.

The body leads. It brings up what’s ready, layer by layer.

What’s fascinating is the range of what it can be used for, everything from physical issues like sprains, tension and chronic pain, to things like anxiety, trauma, and more complex patterns within the body.

And importantly, you don’t need to share anything. There’s no need to talk through your story or explain what’s happened, the body already holds that information, and the treatment works directly with that.

The treatment experience

In terms of the treatment itself, it’s surprisingly simple… and very non-invasive.

You’re fully clothed the entire time. There’s an initial phase where he works on very specific points in the body, guiding it into this deeply relaxed, almost suspended state.

Then you’re left for around 10–15 minutes while the brain processes, and you feel it. Some people feel heavy, almost rooted into the bed, others feel lighter, but there’s a very distinct shift.

When he comes back in, he talks you through what your body has revealed, the patterns, the areas holding tension, the emotional imprints that may be sitting underneath it all.

My experience

I’ll be honest… even as I write this, it does sound a little out there.

But I went in with ongoing back and neck issues I’d had since moving to Dubai, the kind that flare when your nervous system is even slightly overwhelmed.

What came up in that session was honestly mind-blowing.

And I haven’t had an issue since.

Of course, everyone is different. But I was so genuinely wowed by the experience that I’ve since told multiple friends about it… and even taken my children to see him.

The treatment is incredibly gentle and can be done on anyone, from newborns to adults, which says a lot in itself.

At The Wellness Drop, what we’re always trying to do is cut through the noise and share the practitioners who are truly moving the needle, the ones who are experts in their field and doing things differently.

And honestly, we’re so lucky in Dubai to have access to some of the best of the best.

This feels like one of them.

Beyond NeuroLink, Yutopia Clinic offers a whole range of treatments and practitioners that sit very much on that integrative, holistic side of wellness.

And if this experience is anything to go by… I’m very excited to explore more of what they offer.

Bottom line: if something feels “stuck” and talking hasn’t shifted it… this might be the missing piece.

The details

Sessions are approximately 850 AED, and depending on your insurer, may be claimable.

🌾 Aman’s Founder Is Going… Full Farm Life
At 93, Aman founder Adrian Zecha is back - but this time, no overwater villas or infinity pools. Azuma Farm Koiwai is a 24-room retreat in rural Japan built around slow living: wood-fired saunas, farm-to-table everything, and days shaped by nature, not schedules. It’s designed to blend into the land, with local materials, quiet rituals and a deep connection to place. Less “luxury hotel”, more “intentional way of living” - just with very good taste.
Punchline: You probably won’t see the Kardashians here… and that’s exactly the appeal. This isn’t flashy luxury. It’s not about being seen or posting for the gram - it’s about switching off, slowing down, and actually feeling something.

🤖 Robot Massages Are Entering the Chat
Dubai-based roboSculptor has levelled up - moving beyond lymphatic drainage into full recovery mode, with programmes for back pain, leg day, cardio recovery and full-body reset. All delivered by an AI-powered robotic system designed to work without a therapist. As Dubai’s fitness scene explodes, recovery is becoming just as important as the workout - and tech is stepping in to scale it. Think consistent, on-demand treatments in gyms, spas and biohacking spaces.
Our Thoughts: We’re taking bets on where this pops up first in Dubai… but for us? If it doesn’t have hands, we’re not fully convinced.

Cortisol Tracking Is Going Wearable
Lume Health is developing a wristband that tracks cortisol - your body’s key stress hormone - in real time via sweat, linking it with sleep, light exposure and daily habits to map your circadian rhythm more accurately. Unlike one-off tests, this is about tracking cortisol over time - giving a clearer picture of how your stress, energy and recovery are actually functioning day to day, and helping guide more personalised shifts. Still in beta with a growing waitlist, it’s not available just yet… but very much one to watch.
Bottom line: We’ve tracked steps, sleep and HRV… cortisol feels like the next frontier. Because when your stress rhythm’s off, everything else usually is too.

🐝 Well B Festival Is On Pause
Well B Festival - one of Dubai’s most anticipated wellness events - has officially been postponed. No new date just yet, but the team has confirmed this is a pause, not a cancellation. A small but telling moment for the space. Even the most exciting launches need the right timing, energy and conditions to land properly.
Wellness Bestie Thoughts: Gutted, obviously… but we’ll be there when it comes back. Good things (and good vibes) are worth waiting for.

🔮 TREND TO WATCH

🛒 Big Brands Are Losing Trust, Small Brands Are Winning It
A new report from Bain shows smaller “insurgent” brands are driving a huge share of growth in consumer goods - with over a third of category growth coming from just 113 emerging brands. Nearly half are built around better-for-you claims, with protein, clean ingredients and functional benefits leading the charge. Think brands like poppi (gut-friendly soda), Simple Mills (clean-ingredient snacks), Siete (grain-free Mexican staples), and Cora (clean menstrual care) - all growing rapidly by doing one thing well, and doing it transparently. These brands are scaling up to 10x faster than the category average, fuelled by consumers who are increasingly sceptical of big legacy players. And while the big corporations are still circling (and acquiring fast), the momentum is clearly shifting toward smaller, more values-driven brands.
Wellness bestie thoughts: Trust is becoming the differentiator. And right now? The smaller, sharper brands are earning it.

🔬 RESEARCH SPOTLIGHT

📱 Screentime Is Quietly Impacting How We Feel
The latest World Happiness Report highlights a growing link between heavy social media use and declining wellbeing, particularly among young people in Western countries. More than five hours a day shows the strongest negative effects - especially for girls - while countries with more balanced use (think communication over scrolling) report higher life satisfaction. What’s interesting? Many Gen Z users know it’s not great for them - and say they’d prefer a world with less of it… but social pressure keeps them online.
Bottom line: It’s not just about less screen time - it’s about better screen time. Because quitting entirely isn’t the answer either… but neither is five hours of scrolling. We don’t have the answers yet… but we’re definitely looking for them.
